Hannah Montana Survival Guide

The Hannah Montana concert series has been a magnet for controversy over the past few months with parents showing outrage over the price of tickets on the secondary market. Kids everywhere have to have tickets to the show and parents everywhere are doing their best to make it happen, even though they were shocked to find that a single ticket would cost them several hundred dollars. Not even The Boss himself, Bruce Springsteen who is also currently on tour, can rack up the kind of demand that fourteen year old Miley Cyrus has; and with her recent announcement of fourteen more shows this January, the hysteria looks to keep on building.

MTV recently debuted Britney Spears' new album, Blackout, on The Leak! For those that haven't already gotten a taste of the new music from leaked selections online, the 12-track CD features new sounds by Spears as she she tries to regain control of of her thrown as Pop Princess.

Britney may be best known for spotlight in the media's criticial eye rather than being a hit-producing music artist these past three years, but her ability to capture her fan's attention and hold it is something remarkable in this hot industry. Despite her pitiful peformance of her first single "Gimme More" at MTV's VMAs, Britney's potential comeback is sure to either be a success or a complete failure. Have a listen for yourself and tell us what you think. Is this the beginning of another Britney Spears run or the end of a successful pop era featuring the Princess herself?

BRITNEY SPEARS "BLACKOUT" LISTEN HERE!

Here's my review on each of the songs!

1) Gimme More

When I first heard this single, I wasn't impressed at all. It seemed more like the bubble-gum material first heard on her debut album, ...Baby One More Time, than a single guaranteed to bring her status back to number one. On the other hand, I give credit where it's due, and after a few more listens, I quickly picked up on the infectious beat and catchy lyrics. After the 20th "gimme" was on the verge of morphing me back into an annoying 7-year-old at Halloween time, I realized the song could possibly survive in a club-like environment filled with inebriated dancers and partygoers. And surprisingly, I was right, as I find myself catching the song numerous times in bars and on the radio. Has it brought Britney back up to her Pop Princess rank? I'm not sure if this single song has, but with 11 other tracks backing her up, the world has yet to see.

2) Piece of Me

If you were like me, I thought roosters were crowing in the background during my first listen. For someone who is attempting to put her feelings of the past three years into a song that represents who she really is, this was not the way to go. Her monotone voice was boring and nothing to brag about to friends and at times even sounded like her voice was computer digitalized. If you're slightly into rap, you may like the little singing that is actually present in the song, but otherwise it's a big disappointment.

3) Radar

To me, the entire song sounds like something you'd find on a video game, but it holds a beat good enough to keep the listener present. The refrain and chorus are the same as in any typical song, but can at times can become a bit repititious sounding after nearly 4 minutes of the same thing. This song is an excellent one to pop into the car CD player when on a long trip, but not one you'd find yourself singing at an American Idol audition with continual chorus lines of "I'm a radar. Radar. Radar." I'm sure it will be a hit, as it already is on some radio stations, but it may just be a flash in the pan. You tell me.

4) Break The Ice

A bit preachy in the beginning, this track turns into a relatively decent song. The melody is catchy, but the lyrics are too close to 'Hot As Ice' and the huffing in the background is too much like 'Perfect Lover.' Unfortunately, this song ends up getting lost in the crowd to other superior songs on the CD that display their uniqueness in other ways. Since I can't remember what it sounds like after an hour, we do not a winner here.

5) Heaven On Earth

This song sounds like a combination of '80s dance material combined with a little bit of the '90s techno style. It's got a significantly different melody than most of the other songs on the album, but it doesn't have the variety that is needed to maintain even the most die-hard fan's attention. The whispering and the sexy vocals do nothing to attract my attention, but may attract yours. It seems more like a song that will have to grow on me, but otherwise it's something skip-worthy on my iPod.

6) Get Naked

Probably my second favorite track on the CD, this song starts off with a creepy male singer crooning in the background (haunted house, anyone??) and continues to be present throughout the entire 4 minutes. The deep beats complement the sultry singing that leads up to the chorus lines. The only downside to the song are the chorus words which, similar to other songs are repetitious ("Get Naked, Get Naked, Naked, Take It Off, Take It Off...."). It screams boring, but at least the background melody ties in nicely. I would love to dance to this song the next time I'm out for a night on the town and feeling a little frisky....

7) Freakshow

WARNING! Very weird beginning! Britney's back to her rapping/singing style, but at least this one nearly works! Downside? The lyrics are lame as hell! When you have other hit dance selections such as "Gimme More" and "Get Naked," it's hard to even compare this song! This song is a definite flash in the pan! Next!

8) Toy Soldier

Bad-ass Britney collaborated with other singers on this piece only to announce that she "really needs a soldier that can take care of me." If that doesn't turn you off right away, wait until after a few rounds of the chorus. You'll be screaming for your OWN toy soldier to rescue you from such a terrible song.

9) Hot As Ice

One of the more lame tracks, this song features the "little-girl voice" of Britney's and does nothing to show off her, eh, talent. Though it has somewhat of a decent melody, it just has an odd feeling to it and isn't something I would recommend for a second (or third or fourth or fifth) listen on the radio. This song definitely did not even hit hot with me -- but instead went straight to ice cold.

10) Ooh Ooh Baby

My favorite track on the album, "Ooh Ooh Baby" (aka "Fillin' Me Up" on the Internet) brings back old memories from Britney's previous successful albums. This song proves that with the right beat and, while pointless and gummy, typical lyrics, Britney can still pull off a winner. The song is dripping in sensual thoughts, portraying the Britney everyone is familiar with these past few years. I have to believe this song will be the next single off of the album. It's too catchy not to be. Just wait and see!

11) Perfect Lover

I'm a bit indifferent on this song. The only thing that makes this song unique is the chorus and even then it seems to sound like a few other songs on the album at times. Whether Britney's attempt was to just produce a creative sexual song or was actually referring to a past or current lover of hers, the song only makes it half way there (if that). I can't see this song ever hitting the airwaves, but it has a better chance of becoming part of her more scandalous and extremely racy music video repetoire.

12) Why Should I Be Sad

An odd song at best, it's completely obvious Britney is talking to Kevin Federline himself. Nothing is unique about this song. Her feelings of pain and regret are evident in this song, but probably should have been left alone. Hits on the Internet such as "Baby Boi" probably would have been a better choice with more emotion emitted.

ALBUM RATING: C+
Not bad, not horrible. What I would have liked to have seen was Britney get her life in order and then come back with a breakout album. People would be more open to seeing how much she's changed and purchase her album. As it stands now, her current album is the last attempt to bring her back to her glory days. October 30, 2007 will be the deciding day -- will her fans come through for her? Let's hope for the best!

Britney's VMA '07 Performance

Review:

There's not much to say about this one! Where is the old Britney?? Britney attempted to make a huge comeback but her performance told otherwise. Given, the song is a hit, but for a VMA opener, it seemed to close the door on Britney's intense comeback. The dance movements were slow and simple, definitely not comparing to her outrageous dance numbers in the past. Looking extremely lathargic, she completed very little dance movements, unless you consider swinging your arms part of a choreographed dance. She even seemed to have forgotten the art of lip synching -- make it look like you're not! Plus, I thought the whole reason for lip synching was because the hardcore dancing took precedent -- so as not to run out of breath. But what dance movements was she doing that would cause her do so? Who knows. If you ask me, she was nervous and lost. Or maybe tired. Partying until 3am the night before probably didn't help much. Also, I think a little more creativity could have been put forth for her outfit. I guess all we can do is wait for her music videos and CD release this upcoming November 13.

The American urban R&B singer/songwriter and record producer rose to fame when he was the lead singer of Public Announcement. He then became one of the biggest male artists of the late 1990s. Some of his most popular songs include "Bump N' Grind," "Ignition," "I Believe I Can Fly," "The Worlds' Greatest" and "I'm Your Angel" with Celine Dion.

To all past and current Britney Spears fans, the mother and singer has officially released her new single called "Gimme More." Radio station Z100 (www.z100.com) has posted her song on their website for everyone to listen to.

In my opinion, this song doesn't stand out anymore than any other flash in the pan. It's simply a way to keep herself in the limelight and possibly direct the attention off of her outlandish behaviors over the past couple of years.

What I think needs to happen with Spears is the idea that she needs to find herself. She is completely lost in her life and has no where to turn except to material things. Even her music is not something to fawn over anymore. What I liked about her was her creativity and originality when it came to her music and videos. My personal favorite song and video of her's is "Stronger." I still enjoy watching it. And as much as people stress that she's not a girl anymore and that she is growing up ... I just can't accept that her constant party behavior, lack of parental care and crazy behavioral antics is part of "growing up." These are events that happen when a star has lost who he or she is and is in desperate need of help. Once she gets back on track, I can honestly say I'll be right there behind her supporting her fully.

On the other hand, credit needs to be given where it's deserved. Had Spears come out with a slow ballad the contest would be over. No one would listen to it. Deciding to at the very least record a fast song may have been a smart choice. The upbeat funky melody is something that could possibly be heard at a bar or club. It's not a bad choice to dance to when you're out for a night on the town.

So, the pop princess is attempting to make a comeback. What do you think of her song? Do you think it's a flash in the pan? A one hit wonder? And will she make a successful comeback??

Listen to Jordin Sparks' New Single "Tattoo"

AOL's Pop Eater blog anonounced today that Jordin Sparks, American Idol's most recent winner, has released her first single from her debut album scheduled to hit stores nationwide November 20 through record company 19 Recordings/Jive.

Entitled "Tattoo" Sparks sings about a comfortable relationship and coming to the realization that she'll always have them by her side.

Personally, I don't think this song will become an instant nor 'spark' a dramatic impact on radio stations. The song is a one-hit wonder and far from the originality and talent that Carrie Underwood displayed on her ENTIRE CD. The song title also gives one the bad-boy feeling, representing less of a straight-edge and more of the breaking-the-rules type of emotions. Not the case. The song is fluffy and just plain gummy-pop.

Giving Sparks the benefit of the doubt, she still has an album awaiting its release that may contain better tunes. I wasn't a huge fan of Kelly Clarkson's "Ms Independent" since it definitely did not suit her voice. (Rumor had it that Christina Aguilera was offered that song but turned it down.) One album later, Clarkson came out with a smash album that even I couldn't stop hitting repeat. What I think is lacking here for Sparks, though, is personality. I think Sparks needs to figure herself and her feelings out and then start recording. Comparing her to Carrie Underwood may be harsh and a stretch but since they are under the same recording company, I still have to say that her song is a surprise. Maybe down the road, her later albums will be better. I'll come back to this topic when her current CD is released. I hope she thoroughly surprises me in the end.

Hannah Montana Goes on Tour-Dates Announced!

According to sources such as Billboard.biz and businesswire.com, Miley Cyrus as Hannah Montana has announced her tour dates for this fall 2007! Fans may be seeing double when they attend the "Best of Both Worlds" tour. The 14-year-old singer/actress will perform songs from her two hit albums, "Hannah Montana" and "Hannah Montana 2: Meet Miley Cyrus." The release of the latter album in June sold over 900,000 copies and debuted at number 1 on the Billboard 200 charts, topping former American Idol star Kelly Clarkson and "My December."

The tour will hit 54 cities starting Oct. 18. 2007 in St. Louis and wraps up Jan. 9, 2008 in Albany, N.Y. Tickets go on sale to the public on Aug. 18 and range in price from $26-$66. A dollar from every ticket sale will be donated to the medical research and treatment center City of Hope. Hannah Montana tickets can be purchased here! Spotlight of the Day: Van Halen

The 1970's favorite band, Van Halen, originated in Pasadena, California and reached a rock n roll milestone by evovling into one of the most well-known rock band of all time. Orginally, the group was named Mammoth, but after discovering it was taken, chose "Van Halen." They are on of five rock groups that have had two albums sell more than 10 million coipes in the United States.

Controversy
Controversy over the status of band members have plagued the musicians for decades. Several members have left and come back over the years. The group hasn't always had the same vocalists. Departing under specific personal circumstances, the vocalists included David Lee Roth, Sammy Hagar and Gary Cherone. The instrumentalists have remained the same, Eddie Van Halen, Alex Van Halen and until 2006, Michael Anthony, was replaced by Eddie's son, Wolfgang. Other issues include members getting involved with alcoholism, money and personal issues with the members.

Concerts/Tour
After their concert tour in 2004, the band went on hiatus until 2006. The band has not released any new material since 1998. Some of the most influential songs of their time include "Runnin' with the Devil" and "Jump." Other popular songs included in movies and telelvision shows are "Everybody Wants Some!!," "Eruption," "Brown Sound," and "Right Here, Right Now." (RHRN, definitely recommend listening to that song if you have not yet!)

Current Events
On march 12, 2007, Van Halen and its members were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Congratulations guys! Currently, sources state that Eddie, David Lee Roth, Alex and Wolfgang have all met up to practice and plan touring dates for an upcoming reunion tour. Despite rumors, Rolling Stones confirmed that the tour IS still on and that the tour should launch sometime September of 2007. Van Halen tickets can be yours today! Beyonce Falls Down Stairs During Concert!

In recent news, Beyonce Knowles' performance hit the floor in Orlando, Florida July 24th....and I mean hit the floor! During one of her songs, Beyonce walked slowly down the stage stairs and tripped head first! Only seconds after she fell, Beyonce picked herself up and continued her hair-twirling, dancing act, as if it had never happened. Good for her! TuningIn2Music welcomes Lily Allen to the Spotlight! Twenty-two year old Lily Allen was born in North London, England to Keith Allen and Alison Owen. After her father left the family when Lily was only four years old, it was up to her mother to take full care of Lily and her many siblings. She attended over 13 schools and was expelled numerous tims for disruptive and inappropriate behavior. Finally, the 15-year-old decided to completely drop out of school. Allen eventually found work at a Plastic Fantastic record store and, after much rejection, signed with Warner Music in 2002 to start a musical career. Unfortunately, Allen still had a long road ahead of her. The executive who signed soon left the label and Allen found herself with nothing. Allen soon become interested in horticulture and planned on being a florist, but soon changed her mind and followed music once more. She continued to write songs and was signed to Regal Records in 2005, but received little support where she needed it the most.
Looking at various other avenues to achieve her musical goal, Allen focused on the well-known MySpace page. Allen created an account and uploaded demo songs on to her personal profile. Thousands of listeners stopped by her profile and finally Allen released two mixtapes of her own work. As she continued to cultivate a large fan base, magazines began to take notice, yet her label was still slow coming. As her self-written songs became more popular, it gave Allen the opportunity to gain more creative control on her album.
In July of 2006, Allen released her debut album, Alright, Still, in the UK and in January of 2007 in the United States. Her hit song "Smile" became an instant hit as her first single and was even nominated for 2007's Best British Single and 2007's Best British Breakthrough Act, but unfortunatley did not win either title.

Ashlee Simpson Engaged? Pregnant?

Rumors have it that Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz, Fall Out Boy band member, may be engaged and even pregnant! Some reports state Simpson squashed rumors of her pregnancy and even an engagment to the media, yet, friends of the source say Wentz got down on one knee and presented a large diamond ring to the pop singer at the Live Earth even earlier this month. Apparently, she said yes pretty quickly! Some sources are even going as far as speculating that the two are keeping the engagement quiet as to not upset older sister Jessica since her marriage ended in 2006. If either of these are true, could Papa Bear Simpson be a happy camper? Probably not!

Mandy Moore Announces 2007 Tour Dates!

Singer/actress Mandy Moore recently announced the select cities she plans to tour this upcoming fall! According to her website mandymoore.com, Moore is co-headlining alongside 90's sensation Paula Cole, as well as also providing solo performances (denoted by the *). On June 19, Mandy Moore relased her fourth full-length ablum entitled Wild Hope. Collaborating with fellow friends and songwriters Racheal Yamagata, Lori McKenna and The Weepies, Moore stated that this album reflects who she is the most. For the past three years, Moore ventured into the likes of several movies, landing important roles in A Walk to Remember, Saved, Because I Said So and License to Wed. At the same, she caputured these experiences and used them to hone the skills she needed to gain a creative edge. According to her website, Moore stated "I can't go off and do a movie with Diane Keaton, Mia Farrow, Billy Crudup or Tom Wikinson and then come back to make a record where I, as a creative matter, am absent." The most important part of the record was the fact that Moore had the sole ability to co-write each song. By listening to each song on the album, fans can hear a more mature sound, rich of clarity, conviction and texture. Recent reports have country singer Carrie Underwood and Dallas Cowboys starting quarterback, Tony Romo linked together! Underwood and Romo dated on and off last year for nearly 8 months. Apparently, Underwood was not satisfied with the amount of dedication Romo gave to their relationship, often placing football before her. Though they are not currently an "official" a couple, rumors have it that Underwood became upset when Romo was seen courting another young blonde similar in looks to Underwood! Since Romo's 27th birthday, reports have stated that the two are still in contact with each other through phone calls and text messaging. What do you think? Carrie Underwood's New CD Release Date!

Good news for all you Carrie Underwood fans!! Underwood's next album is planned for release this October 23, 2007. It will be her second album. Her first, Some Hearts, skyrocketed on the charts and eventually turned plantinum. Despite this fact, Underwood says she isn't looking to top her first album, just to continue doing what she loves: singing. Personally, first albums don't always hit the roof as in Underwood's case. If I had to guess, I would say her next album won't be as wondeful as the first, but Underwood seeks to surprise and this upcoming ablum could be just what we need for the fall season. Kelly Rowland Collapses!!

Singer Kelly Rowland collapsed on stage this past Sunday, July 15 during a performance in Lagos, Nigeria for a music festival. She apparently fainted from a result of dehydration while performing in very hot and humid weather. Rowland was takien to an undisclosed hospital and announced as doing very well according to her website. She landed in the U.S. this past Monday to continue promoting her newest album, Ms. Kelly.

Esmee Denters -- YouTube Star!

Unless you've been living underneath a rock or just not a YouTube fanatic, you wouldn't have heard about YouTube's next biggest star! Esmee Denters, an 18-year-old from the Netherlands, recently signed a record deal with Justin Timberlake's record company, Tenneman. Now she can currently be seen on tour with Justin Timberlake himself! (Get your Justin Timberlake tickets here!)

How did it all begin?? During the summer of 2006, Denters auditioned for the Dutch "Popstars-The Rivals" television show and found herself rejected. Still believing in her voice and innate talent, Denters found YouTube and broadcasted herself across the Internet with over 40 clips of herself singing different artists' songs. Not too much later, Denters found herself with a large support group of fans and over 20,000 subscribers on YouTube. The young girl has been featured on several talk shows to discuss her instant claim to fame, as well as to perform. Most performances and shows can be found on the YouTube website. Spotlight of the Day: Aly and AJ

If you haven't already, meet Aly and Aj Michalka, Disney's hottest set of siblings aside from the Sprouse twins (Zack and Cody)and Hannah Montana (Miley Cyrus). These teen pop stars raised in Torrance, California, knew they wanted to be singer/songwriters when they were just young girls. At the ripe ages of three and five, the two girls participated in the church choir, as well as school plays.

Alyson has appeared on Phil of the Future, a hit Disney television show, staring as one of the main characters, Keely Teslow, alongside Ricky Ullman. She began playing the piano at age six and picked up the guitar seven years later. Alyson began acting in small productions given by her church when she was just five years old. Now her acting repertoire includes Phil of the Future, Now You See It.., Cow Belles and Super Sweet 16: The Movie.

AJ (Amanda) is Alyson's younger sister by two years. Unlike Alyson, AJ specialized more in the acting field, staring in a myriad of musical productions at her church. She familiarized herself with several instruments such as the acoustic guitar, electric guitar, piano and bongos. Her list of acting gigs includes Cow Belles, Oliver Beene, Six Feet Under, The Guardian, Birds of Prey, Kitty's Dish, Passions and General Hospital.

Focusing on their the musical career, the two have released several songs for various films for Disney. Hits from their platinum CD, Into the Rush, include "No One," which was featured in the motion picture Ice Princess, "Do You Believe in Magic" and "Walking on Sunshine."

The girls have performed at several concerts and even opened for the Cheetah Girls in 2005 for the "Cheetah-licious Christmas Tour." Although they were nominated for Contemporary Inspirational Artist of the Year for the 2006 American Music Awards, they unfortunately did not take home the award.

In the early fall of 2006, their album Acoustic Hearts of Winter was released to the public. This album featured traditional Christmas songs such as "Joy to the World," "Greatest Time of Year," Silent Night" and "Not This Year."

MTV premiered their latest movie, Super Sweet 16:The Movie, this past Sunday, July 8, 2007. Two days later their newest album, Insomniatic was released in stores. Their first single, "Potential Breakup Song" has received a lot of attention from fans on the girls' official myspace page.

Spotlight of the Day: Lifehouse

Lifehouse rose to fame as a mainstream band in the United States consisting of three members, Jason Wade, Rick Woolstenhulme Jr. and Bryce Soderberg. Founded by lead singer Jason Wade, the band orginially consisted of Sergio Andrade and Jon Palmer, who later went on to tackle various other activities.

As a young 15-year-old boy, Wade was introduced to producer Ron Aniello, who helped Wade hone his singing and performance skills. In 1999, the band released their debut album under the band name "Blyss" entitled Diff's Lucky Day. Fortunately, record sales took off, selling hundreds off of eBay.

Just a year later, Lifehouse entered the recording studio to work on No Name Face. By the time the album was released, Wade and Andrade were the only two members left. Due to conflicts and limited focus, several members chose to seperate themselves from the band. Woolstenhulme eventually filled in for Palmer on the drums.

Evidently, "Sick Cycle Carousel" was the band's first single released , yet it was their hit "Hanging by a Moment" that stuck in the minds of their fans....and led them to where they are today. Shortly after their claim to fame moment, the band was back in the studio and released another album called Stanley Climbfall. Its success was shortilved with tracks such as "Spin" (still on the radio though!) and "Take Me Away." It was back to the drawing board for these boys. If they didn't come out with another knock-off hit or reinvent themselves, they could end up in the endless pile of one hit wonders.

By late 2004, Lifehouse gained another member, Soderberg, as their new bass guitarist. Their next album, self-titled Lifehouse, was produced by John Alagia (Mandy Moore!) and featured hits such as "You and Me" and "Blind."

Lifehouse recently debuted their fourth album entitled Who We Are. Fans and newcomers alike can listen to their most successful single since "Hanging by a Moment" titled "First Time." Catchy and memorable, the song was just what the band needed to stay in the spotlight. Spotlight of the Day: Diana DeGarmo

Today's Spotlight of the Day features a former American Idol runner-up of the third installment of the reality TV show, American Idol. Of course, everyone is aware of the American Idol veteran and Queen herself, Kelly Clarkson, first winner of the American Idol series (USA edition). A year later, Ruben Studdard beat out talented Clay Aiken in the ever popular talent show (but really, who did well in the end??). By the third year, Fantasia Barrino beat all odds, mentally and physically, to win the coveted title, leaving 16-year-old Diana DeGarmo in a trial of her dust.

But don't think DeGarmo hasn't made something of herself! She was widely known to her avid fans as a young girl with a power-house voice and impeccable stage precense. In the weeks that followed on the show, DeGarmo sang hits such as "I Got the Music In Me," "Think," "I'm Still Standin'," "My Heart Will Go On," "Turn the Beat Around" and more! DeGarmo received exceptional praise for her beautiful rendition of "Don't Cry Out Loud," which is also featured on her first album.

After American Idol, DeGarmo, now 20, went on to record her debut album, Blue Skies, with semi-likable hits such as "Dreams," "Emotions" and "Don't Cry Out Loud." One of my favorite songs by her is "I Believe," which some people think only Fantasia can pull off. I happen to strongly disagree. This song is without a doubt, one of, if not THE hardest finale song to sing, but DeGarmo performs it in a such a dramatic, yet brilliant way that hardly compares to Fantasia's "yea, yea yea" squabbling. If you ask me, Diana has the better voice. Of course, that's just my opinion. When it comes down to it, both got a record label. After her December 7, 2004 release, the record came in at #52 on the Billboard Chart. As of July 2007, the album sold an additional 35,000 copies coming out to an estimated total of 200,000 copies sold. Not bad for a first timer in this difficult industry! DeGarmo even received the Horizon Award at the Georgia Music Hall of Fame Awards ceremony in 2005.

Right after Idol, DeGarmo was dealt an issue nobody wishes to endure. A young woman in Australia stole her credit card number by installing programs on to DeGarmo's computer and tracking her personal emails to and from DeGarmo's mother to Diana. She furthermore went on to purchase thousands of dollars worth of computer supplies. The perpetrator was finally caught and sentenced to community service in May (year unknown). DeGarmo has discussed this incident on several occasions while on talk shows.

Currently, DeGarmo is in the works on her second album, due out sometime this year (2007). The upcoming album is speculated to be along the lines of R&B/Pop with DeGarmo cowriting many of the songs herself. In 2006 and early 2007, DeGarmo stared on Broadway as Penny Pingleton in the musical Hairspray. Among other public appearances and performances, she nabbed a role in the national tour of BKLYN: THE MUSICAL in the summer of 2006 and performed a musical concert called "In Your Dreams" in early October that same year.

Spotlight of the Day: Colbie Caillat

Twenty-two year old Colbie Caillat has struck it big in the musical arena. With a passion for music, this young woman's instrumental career has sky rocketed thanks to her pre-fame days on Myspace. As an 11-year-old girl, Caillat knew she wanted to spend her life singing after hearing Lauryn Hill's version of "Killing Me Softly." Caillat entered herself in several talent shows and sang many Lauryn Hill songs. As her talent and musical interest grew, Caillat's father, owner of a record producing company, offered her one piece of helpful advice: those who play their own instruments and write their own songs command respect in the music industry.

At the age of 19, Caillat picked up the acoustic guitar and started penning her own music. According to her Myspace page, "I wrote my fist [sic] song after my very first guitar lesson and then it just flowed out. If something's biting me I hold it in because that's the kind of person I am. Then it comes out in songs. Things builds [sic] up inside of me and I'll write three songs in a weekend. It's a release. I don't choose what to write about. It's just there."

After many songs were finished, Caillat started to post them on Myspace, hoping to cause a chain reaction of admiration and enthusiasm for her music. It wasn't until Caillat posted the song "Bubbly" that started the aforementioned reaction. Because of the simplicity and melody of the song, millions of fans were drawn to her Myspace page to get a glimpse of this undiscovered talented artist. Four months later, Caillat became the number one unsigned artist on Myspace. Soon after, record deals flew her way and she eventually signed with Universal Republic who she says has "offered her total creative freedom."

Her debut album, Coco, representative of a past nickname that stuck, features similar acoustic style folk melodies with Caillat's passionate voice shining through. With a sweet folk sound coupled with a bit of old soul, Caillat successfully sets herself apart from the rest of the bubble-gum pop artists and one hit wonders. Her recreation of vintage soul and classical rock from influences such as Fleetwood Mac, Steve Miller Band, Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder has spawned a new talent whois leaving her own footprints behind. Spotlight of the Day: Mike and Joe

This band is very simple, but totally now! Comprised of four members, Mike and Joe are the lead singers of the cover band. Their song repertoire covers mainly current modern rock/alternative hits, as well as several 80's and a few 70's selections. Mike and Joe began playing while attending Indiana University several years back. Soon they began to tour all around the Midwest playing at several college campuses and summertime festivals. According to their Myspace page, "We are a cover band but we are not a 'party' band. There is no schtick to our show. We are a straight up rock band that just kicks it!" Though they may be a cover band, this group of talented guys really show their musical passion by refusing to play to pre-recorded music. Instead, they reproduce the actual songs in their own style with instruments and vocal sounds. Not only do they tap into their musical talent, but they also know how to work a crowd! This past Monday, July 2, Clarkson signed up with Nashville-based Starstruck Entertainment and hired Reb McEntire's husband, CEO Narvel Blackstock, as her new personal manager. After a mini feud with former her record label RCA and Clive Davis over her new album, My December, Clarkson decided to venture onto a new route: country. According to sources, Clarkson will return to her southern roots and is currently working on her fourth album, which will have a bit of a country flair.

*In other news, singer and star of Hannah Montana on the Disney Channel, Miley Cyrus, has outsold Kelly Clarkson in terms of record sales. The 14-year-old daughter of achy-breaky-heart Billy Ray Cyrus, is the youngest artist to ever have two number one albums in less than a year, selling 326,000 copies of her Meet Miley soundtrack in the first week alone! Yes, rumors that the former Mouseketeer, hit pop-star Christina Aguilera is pregnant has been confirmed by E! News this past Tuesday. This will be the pop star's and hubby Jordan Bratman's (a music marketing exectuve) first child. Aguilera and Bratman married in November of 2005 after dating for three years. She expects to be on tour in New Zealand, Asia and Australia for the next few months before settling down to prepare for their new arrival.

Spotlight of the Day: KT Tunstall

Kate Tunstall, aka "KT" (short for her first/last name), embarked on a musical journey several years ago and hasn't looked back since. Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, Tunstall was adopted by her father, a physicist and mother, a school teacher and attended school in St. Andrews on the east side of Scotland. She has two brothers, Joe and Daniel, who is deaf. By the time she reached her twenties, Tunstall was curious about her birth mother and met her not too long after. Her birth mother is of Chinese decent and her birth father, whom she never met, is Irish. During their reunion, her mother told her that her biological father was a folk musician. Thus, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

Throughout her twenties, Tunstall participated in various independent bands such as Elia Drew Red Light Stylus and Tomoko. In 2004, after much focus on her songwriting, Tunstall released her debut solo album, Eye to the Telescope. Upon release, the album sky rocketed to the number three position on the UK charts and nominated in 2005 for a Mercury Music Prize.

On February 7, 2006, he hit album was released in the United States. The first time I heard one of Tunstall's songs was in the amazing movie "The Devil Wears Prada." The opening credits of the movie featured Anne Hathaway preparing for work with the song "Suddenly I See" in the background. I've included it below if you'd like to see it!

Other hit songs by Tunstall include "Black Horse and a Cherry Tree," Other Side of the World" and "Under the Weather." For anyone who is an avid fan of acoustic work, Tunstall released KT Tunstall's Acoustic Extravaganza album, which was recorded by Tunstall herself and features only her on her guitar. Her upcoming album Drastic Fantastic is due for release on September 18, 2007 with soon-to-be hits "Saving My Face," "Someday Soon," "Hold On," "Beauty of Uncertanity" and "I Don't Want You Now."

Tunstall brings a fresh, unique flavor to the music industry, with a combination of folk and pop beats in her music selections. My personal favorite is "Suddenly I See," which makes me feel energized and determined to get what I want every time I listen to it. This singer/songwriter brings talent, passion and unique styles to the table every time she performs.

Spotlight of the Day: Shevy Smith

Today's Spotlight of the Day features a young upcoming country singer just trying to make her dream come true. After her high school graduation, 23-year-old Shevy Smith took her music and her dog, Vivianne, on the road. She happened to perform twice at my college the past two years so I included the articles I wrote after interviewing her and watching the performances. Most songwriters never reach their lifelong dream, constantly being told they are pursuing a pipe dream. But 21-year-old songsmith Shevy Smith is living hers everyday.

"I've been singing my whole life," Smith said. "I started piano when I was four and learned to play it while I was reading."
With an acoustic pop rock style and a hint of country flair, Smith continued her nationwide college tour Wednesday.

Originally from central Kansas in a town called Haven, Smith grew up on a farm before moving to Tennessee at 18.

"I was about 15 when I started performing at places and really taking it seriously," Smith said.

Though music played an important role in her life, Smith said she was not raised as a child performer. "I thought I would be more of an athlete," she explained. "I wanted to be a professional water skier or play college basketball."

"A music teacher told me in fifth grade, you could do something with this if you would want to," Smith added. Smith said winning high school talent shows gave her the idea to test her guitar skills and create her own music. At the age of 16, Smith said a producer from New York noticed her unique talent and she began working sessions there. After being sent to Nashville, she signed a publishing deal to write songs.

"I've been at that for about three and half years," she explained. "That was pretty much my dream job right out of the shoot."

"Last year, I was approached by some people who work with an independent label and wanted to make a record and I said yes," Smith explained.

Smith said she receives inspiration for writing songs such as "Blue print" and "Red Rock Road" from personal experiences.

"I think that the more personal they are, the more universal they are as well. If it makes sense to me and it's something I think other people are feeling too, that's one of the greatest discoveries I've made in all of this," Smith explained.

While on stage Wednesday, Smith explained to her audience the emotions she felt of hearing about her parents' divorce. Through her frustration and disappointment, Smith became motivated to write a song called "Debris." Smith said the moment someone tells her that her songs reflect their feelings she feels the greatest sense of accomplishment.

When asked who her role models are, Smith said, "everybody always asks me my influences, so I like role models."

"I have two Toms in my life. I really, really admire Tom Petty and I love Tom Brokaw," Smith said. "Somewhere in the middle is exactly where I'd like to be myself. They both are so respected in what they do and they have a class about them that I love," Smith continued.

Other idols include Emmylou Harris and Linda Ronstadt, who continue to be major influences in shaping Smith's musical career.

According to Smith, she is the "queen of listing goals." "I have daily goals, and I have lifetime goals. I want to do a major label record, I want to be on commercial radio and I would love to work with some of my heroes at some point," Smith explained. "I have other goals, too, like to surf and go sky-diving, things that are not musical at all," she added.

On the road for nearly 27 days each month, Smith said her yellow Labrador named Vivianne keeps her company. The support for her back at home continues to encourage her to follow her passion for singing.

'There's an underlying support there that's undeniable. They look at me and know that I'm doing exactly what I should be doing," Smith said.

One of the largest goals the young songwriter holds is to experience college.

"I definitely plan on doing college later on. I don't think it will probably be in the music side of things. I'm getting my education in that daily," Smith said. "I would love to study philosophy or political theory, something that broadens yourknowledge scope," Smith added.

Smith said her greatest fear in life, aside from snakes, is mediocrity.

"I definitely find that the most worthwhile things in the world, people either love them or hate them. There's usually not a lot of apathy involved in the truly greater things in life, Smith explained.

"So whether it's a song, whether it's a show or a piece of clothing, mediocrity is definitely my biggest fear," she continued.

Smith said a Bruce Springsteen quote holds a significant impact in her life because it encourages her to consistently see herself in her audience.

"But it's more important if you're audience can look at you and see themselves. I think there's so much truth to that. A lot of times when you see people become major stars and they sort of flop, it's because they've stopped seeing themselves in their fans, Smith explained.

"I think it's good advice for non-musicians, for humans and going through life," she continued. "If you can see that person behind the counter as yourself, you'll definitely act in a more appropriate way."

"As long as you can keep some sort of perspective and grounding through it all, I think that's probably a good piece of advice," Smith added.

A Year Later in 2006....

After years of diligence and grinding agendas, Shevy Smith has finally reached a significant milestone in her musical career.

Gracing the stage with her undeniable calm presence, the singer/songwriter strummed the strings on her guitar, replaying songs from her earlier album, "Blueprint," as well as showcasing new songs from her upcoming album, "September Songs."

"I started playing piano at the age of four and guitar when I was 13. I've always been creative with writing and drawing so it was a natural progression into music. By the time I was 15, I was into performing pretty hard," Smith said.

During her previous performance on campus in 2005, Smith was 21 and focused on introducing her earlier songs to new audiences. Now, 23, Smith has stepped up both vocally and independently.

"I think with age comes wisdom and experience and hopefully I've gotten a lot better. Playing over 200 shows is similar to shooting free throws with your eyes closed. Eventually you are going to improve.

"At this point, I feel very comfortable wherever I play," she said. "I've also gotten a lot tougher and have learned what to let roll off my back," she continued.

"I think you just even out. We all get a little emotional, but hopefully just not too bent out of shape."

While on stage Wednesday, Smith enlightened the audience of her recent experience playing at Country Thunder, a summer music fest in Wisconsin, alongside Phil Vassar, who has recently been working in the studio with her. Smith said a lot of her music influences are derived from the mid-70s rock era.

Students attending the performance enjoyed the show and were impressed with her musical experience.

"It was great that she got the opportunity to sing and work with a bigger name, such as Phil Vasser," Rachel, a sophomore elementary education major, said. "Hopefully, we'll be seeing her go big soon."

After touring for nearly two years and writing new material, Smith said she is ready to take the music world by storm.

"There's been a lot of changes in the past couple years. When you get to know what works for you, how your voice sounds and draw your influences in, somewhere along the way you fall into what you are," Smith said.

"I know my voice more than I ever have before. As far as musically, I'm talking to a lot of the bigger records. We're stepping up the game, getting a ton of work and playing a ton of gigs. That's a pretty singular goal for me, so everything in my life is geared to this one thing," she added.

Whether or not one witnessed Smith's performance yesterday, it is obvious there is a difference between her style and those on reality shows, such as American Idol.

"Reality shows get into a lot of competition and it starts to become all about winning a contest. You basically sing anything to help you win, instead of moving people with what you have to say," Smith said.

"Music competitions have different performers. It's very important for me to have control over what I am singing since I write my own music. I think performing is all about honesty and what you feel so that you can materialize it so others can relate to it as well," she continued.

Her new album, "September Songs," is due out Sept. 26 and is comprised of new flair inspired by all of the schools she has visited and the people she has met.

"I'm excited to share this new album with everyone. I hope they all notice that there is something real and different to it," Smith said.

New songs include a moving piece called "Angel With Shoes," "Heavy Rotation," "September Song" and "Homespun."

With strong guitar chords and a fast-paced beat, "Heavy Rotation" details the impact one may have on another.

During her performance Smith said she wrote "September Song" after experiencing many torrid relationships during the summer.

"It's all about the memories you have with these people and then you realize that once the summer is over, you have to go back to what you were doing before," Smith said.

Smith said she and a friend spent a day together pondering about how they felt about their Kansas roots and finally penned a song called "Homespun" that reflected the thought process and their inner emotions.

Spotlight of the Day: The Weepies

The story of Deb Talan and Steve Tannen is not your typical romantic story, but of a unique attraction far beyond the physical appearance. Upon arrival at one of Boston's legendary music venues, Club Passim, Deb Talan takes notice of one of her favorite musicians, Steve Tannen, who is gearing up to perform his debut album Big Senorita. As he spots Deb in the audience, his nerves take over; for he is a tremendous fan of her hit debut album Something Burning. After the show concludes and the audience has left, the two singer/songwriters linger behind, drinking wine and trading an acoustic guitar back and forth. Thus, as most say, the rest is history. After four years of being together, The Weepies, as they became known as, have created a "breath of fresh air for fans and songwriters for their unique voices and unforgettable sound," according to their website (theweepies.com).
This indie/pop-folk band created their first album together called Happiness (independently) and was signed in 2005 to Nettwerk Records to begin the recording process of their second album, Say I Am You.
The musical pair combined their artistic talents together to create an eclectic blend of passionate ballads and upbeat rhythms. Their sound is a mixture of indie beats combined with pop-rock styles. Their vocal harmonies are amazing and are assisted by the likes of popular artists and instrumentalists such as guitarist Meghan Toohey, drummer Frank Lenz, bass players Whynot Jansveld, Malcom Gold and Milo Decruz.

Spotlight of the Day: Candice Clark

Today's Spotlight of the Day is on an upcoming singer named Candice Clark. With similar looks to Carrie Underwood, Clark features a unique sound of pop and rock, sounding like a cross between Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood.

According to Clark's myspace page (myspace.com/candiceclarkmusic, her strong musical talent has been influenced by the likes of Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston and Celine Dion. As a young girl, she listened to Wilson Phillips, Boys II Men and Luther Vandross. Other favorites of hers included Alanis Morissette and Jewel. Even though she may sound like other current singers, Clark said she doesn' t like to "compare my personal style to that of other artists. This is simply because I feel that though I have been influenced by the feelings that my favorite singers or bands put into their music, as a snogwriter myself, I write what I feel based on my own experiences, which are different from those of other musicians." Nicely put!

Clark said she knew she wanted to be a singer/performer the minute she performed her first solo at the age of seven. After graduating from high school early, Clark moved around a bit and decided to settle down and focus on her music career. It was not too long afterward that Clark was lucky enough to meet a successful Dove Award-winning producer out of Tennessee and began to write and record her own music. Yet, aside from being a singer, Clark says she likes to do normal things such as play soccer, work out, dance and hang out with family and friends. She is grateful to all of her fans and supporters and states that without them, her dream would not be coming true.

Clark's CD "Let Go" is currently no in stores but is available for purchase on iTunes and Soney Connect. Her CD consists of songs such as "Let Me Be," "Tell Me Why," "Living for Today," "But You Said, "Brand New Day" and more! Check out five of her songs on her myspace page now! Her music portrays Clark's life of determination and passion for her love of music and also chronicles the difficulties in life everyone encounters.

Everyone. Meet Candice Clark. With her drive, enthusiasm and passion for music, there is no doubt in my mind that she will become a successful, well-known singer.

Spotlight of the Day: Joanna Pacitti

Today's spotlight artist of the day is Joanna Pacitti. Most people probably do not know who she is but may have heard her music. If you've seen Legally Blonde, then you have heard her music. Joanna sings her hit song off of the movie soundtrack, "Watch Me Shine." Contrary to popular belief, Vanessa Cartlon does NOT sing that song. I have provided a video link of her singing it below. Very empowering (yet poppy) song to say the least!
Joanna began singing as a five-year-old to entertain customers in her father's barber shop. As she grew older, she landed roles in musicals such as The Wizard of Oz and Annie. Eventually, at the age of 16 she signed her first record deal with A&M/ Geffen Records (think Lifehouse, Ashlee Simpson).
About a year ago, Joanna was part of MTV's "True Life" reality series and even admitted that singing the Legally Blonde song was a huge break for her career. Sometime afterward, Joanna started to record her album "This Crazy Life" which represents her journey of highs and lows during the recording process. She even had her song "Miracle" featured in the Lifetime TV Movie Homeless to Harvard. The song is a beautiful ballad that tells of a girl searching for a miracle "to walk right through the door." I have also included the video for "Miracle" below for those who would like to see it or haven't yet. Currently, Joanna wrapped up her tour with Nick Lachey and is working on performing at different venues. Her website features webisodes of Joanna discussing her album and songs such as "Let It Slide" and "4th of July." On June 15, the Nancy Drew movie featured a new song of Joanna's called "Pretty Much Amazing." She's also got a big performance at the Lewis Family Playhouse this November that she is currently preparing for in California, but in the meantime look out for all kinds of Joanna information and updates at her official website and myspace page!

Spotlight of the Day: Chantal Kreviazuk

Lately I've been talking up a storm on Mandy Moore, so I thought it was time to focus on different artists. Some that are in the spotlight and some that are under the radar and that I believe should be noticed! So every so often I will put up a different artist or group and showcase what they are all about. If you have any ideas, feel free to shoot me a message!

First Spotlight: Chantal Kreviazuk

Born in Canada, Chantal Kreviazuk encompasses what every artist should: drive, self-confidence and a strong passion for music. A trained pianist, Kreviazuk hit it big in 1996 with hit singles "God Made Me" and "Surrounded." Since then her large repertoire of songs includes hit singles off of films and TV shows such as "Saved!," "Armageddon," "Just My Luck," "Dawson's Creek," "Uptown Girls," "Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County" and more. Aside from her own singing and musical talent, Kreviazuk has lend her song-writing capabilities to artists such as Avril Lavigne, Kelly Clarkson, Hilary Duff, Marion Raven, Gwen Stefani, Mandy Moore and Cheyenne Kimball. Her list of records include "Under These Rocks and Stones," "Colour Moving and Stones," "What If It All Means Something" and "Ghost Stories."
Awards Kreviazuk has been nominated for include Best New Artist ('97), Single of the Year ('07) and Best Pop Album ('07). She also has won awards for Best Pop Album in 2000 as well as Best Female Artist in the same year.
The talented singer-songwriter not only can tickle the ivories but can also prove herself on the guitar too. I've included one of my favorite songs of hers below. Enjoy!

Mandy Moore's "Wild Hope" Out Tomorrow!

One day to go! Twenty-four hours and counting! Mandy Moore's fifth album "Wild Hope" (if you count her "I Wanna Be with You" one) is coming out TOMORROW! Mandy Moore hasn't released an album since 2003 with her cover-album titled "Coverage." Since then, she's switched labels, recording studios and discovered an amazing band to support her. Her decision to have a more eclectic sound on her album was solely her choice and she refused to let anyone tell her otherwise. Recently, Moore posted on her website that she is busy with interviews for her upcoming movie "License to Wed," due out July 3. She also mentioned that she has two more upcoming performances and would like to thank the people in Chicago for breaking the ice in singing her new material.

"I have never worked this hard to promote something and as I've mentioned to you guys in the past, it's been amazingly educational. However, the last week or so has been a new phase of promotion in that I am finally getting to perform the record rather than just talk about it. The audience at Park West (Chicago) was so awesome and responsive. I had no idea what to expect and who would show up. I guess the show sold out which blew me away, to say the least. I played just about the whole record along with a couple covers the band and I worked out. It went by so quickly and all I could think about is wanting to get back out there." ~Mandy Moore, quoted from MandyMoore.com

Like I previously blogged, I was at the Chicago performance so check around the site for a review of it, as well as a couple of close-ups! She also mentioned that she will be touring in the near future! So don't forget to head over to www.ticketsnow.com to grab your tickets once dates are finalized! In the meantime, if you live in the NY or LA area, she's coming to Joe's Pub (NY) and The Roxy (LA) in a week or two, so I highly recommend you check it out! Kelly Clarkson Update!

Okay, I know I'm really late on this, but just in case there are still people out there who don't know, this is for you.

Kelly Clarkson has canceled her upcoming tour.

But this shouldn't discourage you from purchasing her album on June 26. Think of it this way. When Clarkson does pick her tour back up, by that time you should have the album in hand and know all of the lyrics. Concerts are more fun anyways when you know the songs being sung. Her "Breakaway" tour was AMAZING, especially since I knew most of the songs. The concert FLEW by! So do yourself a favor, get her "My December" album and put it on repeat. There will be NO excuses if you don't know the words. Just because she ended this tour doesn't mean she's never going to tour again!

Also, make sure to come back here and check out my review of "My December" the week of its release. Then tell me your thoughts on it as well! Will it beat her "Breakaway" album? We shall find out!

Beyonce Knowles began as one of the lead singers in the hit group Destiny's Child for over seven years. (LOVED THEM! Saw them in concert! Awesome!) Popular hits included "Bills, Bills, Bills," "Say My Name," "Bug a Boo," "Jumpin' Jumpin'" (one of my fave songs of theirs), "Survivor," "Bootylicious" and "Independent Women." Knowles has won high honors and awards such as "Songwriter of the Year" and a Grammy in 2006 for "Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals." By 2003, Knowles chose to break off into her now successful solo career with her debut solo album "Dangerously In Love." By December of 2006, Knowles had five more Grammys under her belt, one of which was for "Best Contemporary R&B Album."
Let's be honest, this 25-year-old has an AMAZING voice, unbelievable stage presence and a whole life a head of her for more utter greatness. Compare her to any other celebrity and it's no contest.

Justin Brings New Meaning to "Sexy"

Justin Timberlake embarks on his fall tour this August in Tennessee to promote his past hit album "FutureSex/LoveSounds." I'll admit, I was a HUGE fan of his when he was the cute curly blond heartthrob in N'Sync. "Dirty Pop" was an awesome song and an even better video (admit it, you all know how the chorus choreography goes -- or at least parts!) After the gradual but eventual split-up of the boy band, Justin Timberlake managed to win his way into women's hearts unlike some of his other competition such as Nick Lachey, Nick Carter and Ryan Cabrera (where the heck did he go??). With breakout hits like "Cry Me A River," "Like I Love You," and "Rock Your Body" how could he not stay in the spotlight?? His early break-up with the former Mousekateer and pop princess, Britney Spears, a new look and another album later, Timberlake continued to climb the musical ladder of success. His latest album, "FutureSex/LoveSounds" sky rocketed to the number one position on the Billboard chart, selling over 680,000 copies in its first week. The first hit single "SexyBack" reached number one in nine weeks and stayed there for another seven. (It really is a great song to dance to!)

The videos and music are great to listen to but they are cannot nearly be as awesome as seeing it LIVE. Everyone should definitely treat themselves to an intimate concert with JT himself and purchase some Justin Timberlake concert tickets. Justin Timberlake tickets are on sale now for his fall tour. Grab these cheap tickets today and never regret it! (Maybe Nelly Fertado will even make a guest appearance at select locations??? Okay, well one can hope!)

The 2007 Kelly Clarkson

Kelly Clarkson is back to the drawing board and hitting the grindstone full blast! With her new album "My December" only two weeks from its release (June 26, 2007), Kelly Clarkson is preparing for her nationwide tour. Originally, the album was set for release on July 24, but in order for the fans to learn the lyrics, Clarkson decided to up the release date. The veteran American Idol winner has accomplished a lot of the past few years. Aside from touring last year, promoting her new album and participating in charitable events, Clarkson has made her name even bigger as 2007 hits the mid-way point. From July to September, Clarkson will promote her newest repertoire of songs. The tour embarks in Portland, Oregon on Wednesday, July 11 and ends September 29 in Las Vegas.

The show will include several of Clarkson's smash hits such as "Since U Been Gone," "Behind These Hazel Eyes," "Walk Away," "Gone," "Breakaway" and much more! Songs avid fans can expect are "One Minute," "Maybe," "Can I Have a Kiss, hit single "Never Again" and many more! According to the track listing, a hidden song called "Chivas" is supposedly on the album. The best part about the album? Despite rumored controversy between record-producer Clive Davis, Clarkson finally was able to contribute her own personality into her work as well as write/co-write every song.

Mandy Moore "Wild Hope" Concert!

Last night, Mandy Moore came to Chicago and performed an incredible show for a small crowd. Right near the heart of Chicago, Moore introduced her band and new repertoire of songs on her upcoming album "Wild Hope" due out June 19, 2007.

Moore came out wearing a black beaded dress and cardigan designed by none other than herself. The line, called Mblem, features a vintage appeal on clothes with obvious comfort taken into consideration.

She began her show with a few new songs including "Nothing That You Are" and "All Good Things." As to not lose the crowd's interest, Moore also threw in a few oldies such as "Moonshadow" (originally Cat Stevens) and "Help Me" (originally Joni Mitchell).

Other songs of the night included new songs she sang included "Few Days Down," "Wild Hope" and "Latest Mistake," informing the audience that she wrote the song after someone in her life did her wrong. Finally, she sang "Gardenia," an incredibly beautiful ballad written with Chantal Kreviazuk. Near the end of the song, Moore had to stop and close her eyes, nearly on the brink of evident tears. This is definitely a song to remember.

The last two songs consisted of her recent single "Extraordinary"and a unique rendition of "Candy." Moore stated that as much as it "pained her" to sing "Candy" she knew everyone was just waiting for her to sing it. She even admitted to not remembering the words and whipped out her palm pilot and googled her own lyrics! Mid-way through the song she actually forgot the words, but gracefully saved herself by letting the audience know they can sing for her at anytime!

The show was just amazing and better than I could ever have expected. It's a relief to know that despite the jail-driven, rehab celebrities in the world, there are still successful, classy ones around proving to the world just who they are and where they intend to go, changing the world as they do so. Mandy Moore is not without her battles like any 23-year-old, but she exudes confidence in every way possible.

How to Win American Idol

A lot of people believe I wanted Jordin Sparks to win American Idol because we share the same last name. But this is not the case. Why would I cheer on somebody just because of their last name? What I look for in a winner is talent, originality and charisma. All of which Jordin has. Factors such as her age and weight should not be examined meticulously just because she is now the winner and in the media spotlight.

What we have on this show is a case of Unique Syndrome. If you don't have the unique card, you just won't win. (And I don't mean mean being incredibly weird and gross on TV or futhermore, having a TERRIBLE vioce!!) Let me explain.

1) The first winner of American Idol, Kelly Clarkson, established herself in the pop arena with hits such as "A Moment Like This," "Low," "Since U've Been Gone" and "Breakaway." Coming off of American Idol, she sure has made something of herself, selling millions of albums and selling out hundreds of concerts worldwide. Her first album was a hit but only with a select number of songs. Her next album "Breakaway" became a smash hit and proved to be more successful than her debut album. She won simply because her voice was better than Justin's and the sweetheart image trumped over the temporary heartthrob. She even released a movie with runner-up Justin Gurani...which was a flop at the box office. With true competition from Season Four winner, Carrie Underwood, in terms of record sales, Kelly is still a top candidate for best winner of the reality TV show. Yet, if we were to place Clarkson with the other five winners in an ultimate singing competition, I have my doubts. On Kelly's debut album, I felt her vocals were strained and sometimes came off as high-pitched shouting rather than singing. By her second, her voice had a normal sound to it and sounded amazing in nearly everyone of her songs. With her third album on its way out, the songs that have already surfaced seem to have found its way back to the "Miss Independant" phase -- back to the shouting/screaming mode. I'm just not feeling that side of Kelly. Could it have something to do with her "normal arguments" with record producer Clive Davis as she told Ryan Seacreast recently on his live radio show? You tell me what you think.

2) Ruban Studdard became American Idol's second winner. I did not vote for him. Yes, I thought he had a decent voice. Yes, I thought he seemed cuddly and somewhat "teddy-bear like" as Paula Abdul mentioned a bajillion times. But that was it. Clay Aiken, the season's runner-up, could nail down any song he sang. You could have him sing "Happy Birthday" and it would be jaw-dropping amazing. His voice is just awesome. I dont care about ANY of the media hype he's been through pertaining to his sexual preference or inccident with Kelly Ripa. I just don't care. His voice is incredible. His album "Measure of a Man" goes far beyond the success of Ruban's....the winner, might I remind you. And his voice is breathtaking...if I haven't mentioned it enough.
My theory behind the shocks of why a person won over another is simply this: Over confidence. You assume your favorite or even America's favorite will win, so you save yourself the money from calling/texting your choice. Others will make up for your loss of votes, right? WRONG!!!! Don't play the "it's rigged" card. You don't vote, you run the risk of your top choice not being just that: the top choice. (Think Chris Daughtry people!! Nice going fans!) Simple as that. Clay should have taken home the prize....but it doesn't matter does it? He obviously had the unique appeal I'm preaching about and that's why he is more successful than Ruban. And look where that got the winner....singing soul...by himself...has anyone seen him lately????

3) The Ms. Fantasia Barrino, Season Three winner of American Idol. She doesn't have a horrible voice. It's definitely unique. Did anyone see her Lifetime Original Movie? If most is true, she won American Idol by the skin of her teeth. She had nine lives that girl! Barely getting to the auditions, getting a family member to get her to go back to it when she gave up, getting into Hollywood and getting patrionized for having a baby girl at the age of 19 as well as being illiterate. Some felt the singer did not represent the "American Idol." Yet, she drove on and ended up winning. My vote was with 16-year-old Diana DeGarmo. She was more my type of singer. But both deserved albums and when it came down to it, both got them as well as success. And although Fantasia has a bit more successful than Diana, she's not exactly hogging the spotlight either. Once in awhile you may catch her name, but she is no Beyonce. Not yet at least.

4) The ever lovely and charming Carrie Underwood. The Country Princess herself. I knew she was going to win the minute she stepped into the room with her curly blond hair and bright pink t-shirt. Plus, the contest need a country singer and she was outstanding in that category. This girl has sold more records during her opening than Kelly Clarkson did. Not too mention that she has won many grammys and countless other awards, performed at Country Thunder (a music festival consisting of country singers celebring the gift of music) and more! This girl even beat out the famous Faith Hill (was she REALLY mad or just playing around as she says?? Check YouTube and you tell me.) But, alas, I love Carrie and her music. She'll be around for a loooooong time. I'm sure of it.

5) Taylor Who? Oh, Taylor Hicks. See Ruben's reason for winning on how Taylor managed to win. (Soul Patrol?? Not feeling it ONE BIT!) And where is this Mr. Hicks anyway?? (Apparently he is touring.....) I liked Katherine McPhee. Her song "Over It" isn't the biggest hit, but has made some waves in the music scene. And hands down, Chris Daughtry SHOULD have won. Though, he IS doing better than Hicks so I guess what's the point in arguing.

6) Now....back to Ms. Sparks...

I'm glad she won. I had a feeling the first time she sang (during the Top 12 round) that she would make it far if not win. Though, I would have liked to have seen Gina Glocksen win with her unique sound and rock-edge, most likely she'll get a record deal and I'll be one of the first to grab it.

In the meantime, thousands will continue to try out for this ridiculous but star-producing show. And thousands will go home with their head in their tear-stricken hands. But for the Seventh Season of American Idol, just remember. It's the unique appeal that wins.
